A long video already contains the raw material for a week of short-form posts. The work is in choosing the right moments, reframing them for a vertical screen and keeping every clip organized so nothing is posted twice.

Choose clips that stand alone

A good short makes sense with no context. Scan the long cut for moments that have a clear beginning, a payoff and no need for the setup that came before.

  • A single, complete idea that finishes in under a minute
  • A strong first sentence that works without the intro
  • A visible or audible moment: a reveal, a result, a strong opinion
  • No references to "earlier in the video"

A repeatable five-clip pass

1. Mark candidates while you review

As you watch the finished long cut, drop a timestamped note on every moment that could stand alone. Label each with a one-line working title.

2. Cut from the master, not from the export

Pull clips from the project timeline or the highest quality file so the vertical versions are sharp. Re-exporting from a compressed upload softens detail.

3. Reframe for 9:16

Do not just crop the center. Re-position the subject, keep key action inside the safe area away from interface buttons, and add captions so the clip works on mute.

4. Tighten the opening

Cut the first breath, the filler word, the throat clear. The clip should start on the strongest word.

5. Name and number each clip

Use the parent video name plus a clip number and version, such as coldbrew_clip03_v2. It keeps approvals and posting clean when several people touch the same set.

Keep every clip in review. Start your 14-day trial of Audence to leave timestamped notes on the long cut and track clip versions as v1, v2, v3.

  • The posting order is agreed so no clip goes out twice
